Great scene! Very imaginative. No aircraft shadows though ..?

Pat Speirs replied:

Thanks Gary, shadows left out as sun is very low and left - see fence post and tree shadows - also difficult to get angle of shadow image just right, so chickened out. Need to work on this!!

Artist's Description

Section Scramble

A section of Spitfires claws for height as they are called for an instant take-off. Based on a temporary winter strip, albeit with nice accommodation in the nearby manor house, the Spits stand ready for the alert call. Given the green light from the control caravan the aircraft are airborne in minutes leaving a haze of blowing snow at the far end of the strip. If needed, the blood wagons stand ready at the edge of the field when the aircraft recover.

Tactical strip operations became the norm as the Allied forces edged their way across Europe in 1944.

About Pat Speirs

Pat Speirs

Have been interested in photography since just after WW2, when film became freely available again, using Kodak Autographic equipment. Graduated, in the 50's, to 35mm and was involved in photographic work during my 17 yrs as RAF aircrew - navigator. Since retirement and migrating to Canon digital equipment have been involved with two of my sons and one grandson in a considerable amount of photographic activity, particularly composite images. Now producing digital art prints with the major emphasis on classic warbird aviation. With son, Duncan, now becoming a well-known and published wild life photographer we have started, in 2017, a new gallery reflecting Scottish sea birds - and 'feathered' flight
