Rail Strike
(Perhaps a more radical meaning of the term than the usual labour stoppage)
In the weeks leading up to the Normandy landings much of the Allied air effort was directed at the rail infrastructure in France. Europe had the most advanced rail complex in the world at that time and many sorties were laid on to attack rail choke points and rolling stock. The intent was to deny the German forces the ability to move troops from their reserve units when the landings took place and was largely successful. The image depicts a pair of B25s from the 489th BS attacking a rail junction on such a typical mission.
