Description
Corsair - En-route
Vought Corsair, the premier aircraft of the Allies in the Pacific Theatre during WW2. The unmistakable cranked wing profile brought about by the need to keep the huge prop clear of the carrier deck in take off and landing. Operated by the US Navy, Royal Navy, Royal Australian Navy and the US Marines the Corsair gave sterling service both as a fighter and ground attack aircraft. Seen here en-route to a strike on Japanese held islands from one of the UK carriers in the latter stages of WW2 in the Pacific.
