Description
WW1 The Fokker Scourge Eindecker
The advent of the Fokker Eindecker was a game changer for WW1 air combat. Designed solely to act as a fighter the Eindecker made huge inroads into the RFC capability. To counter this the Airco DH2 was rushed into production and succeeded to some degree in addressing the balance. Slightly faster and much more agile the DH2 brought some relief to the hard pressed RFC where a front line pilots average life expectancy was less than three weeks. Seen here, stalked by a pair of Eindeckers a DH2 of 24 Sqdn seeks some refuge in the local cloud conditions.

Great new one, Pat! Love the subject...you just don't see DH2's in art much, and it was an important aircraft, just for the reasons you stated here. Hope he gets into those clouds and then gets behind one of those Eindeckers.

Hi Douglas, good to hear from you again. Having had a real in depth look at the DH2 while putting this one together Made me realise just how tough the RFC guys were - the amount of 'stick and string' holding the DH2 together is fascinating. Hoping to get some more images with the Eindecker and Albatros DIII soon .
