Fokker Dr1 – Predator
Rushed into production, and service, the Dr1 was designed to deal with the effectiveness of the new arrivals for the RFC in 1917. Adopted by Richthofen’s group the triplane was soon scoring large numbers of victories – Richthofen racked up his last 19 kills in this aircraft. The SE5 used by the RFC was at least an equivalent aircraft but the 1917 RFC suffered from a large degree of attrition and poor training. Seen here a DR1 falls on a pair of Se5s scattering them into the safety of summer cloud formations – a regular scenario in the 1917-18 phase of WW1.
