Interdictor
By early 1945 the Allied air forces had achieved almost complete air superiority and many sorties were now flown in the ground attack and interdictor role. Johnnie Johnson’s wing was pre-eminent in this and the new Griffon powered Spits were ideal for the low-level missions.
The image shows Johnson’s Spit, supported by a trio of Canadian members of 144 Wing, flying a low-level dawn strike interdictor mission in the last days of WW2.
