Description
‘Night Stalker’
Hunter’s moon … the worst conditions for the Bomber Command crews, silhouetted against the lower cloud tops and lit by the near full moon. Although operations were, in general, not launched in full moon and clear sky conditions there were occasions when due to faulty met forecasts the predicted cloud cover did not materialize. Luftwaffe night fighters, far and away the most effective of the German night defences, would reign supreme in the conditions implied in the image - beautiful but deadly. The FW 190 hunter is already ‘locked on’ to the bomber stream with the Lanc about to go into a violent ‘ corkscrew starboard’ evasive action.
