Description
P47 Series
A portrait study of the mighty Jug in its natural environment - a big sky. This particular example (a P47-D) flew from Duxford in 1944 with the 84th Fighter Squadron, 78th Fighter Group. These units were deeply involved in escort and ground attack roles racking up some 465 missions with 326 air combat kills - however at a cost of 200 combat losses and 100 pilots killed in action. The airframe name would indicate some lack of faith in the higher echelons at the 8th AF - snafu refers to situation normal all fouled up - well maybe not fouled. The dark side of military humour is always there just below the surface.
