Description
P47 Series
A portrait study of the mighty Jug in its natural environment - a big sky. This particular example (a P47-G) flew from Duxford in 1944 with the 84th Fighter Squadron, 78th Fighter Group. These units were deeply involved in B17 escort duties and ground attack roles racking up some 465 missions with 326 air combat kills - however at a cost of 200 combat losses and 100 pilots killed in action. Instrumental in gaining air superiority during the massive daylight air attacks in 1944 the P47 was the highest scoring combat aircraft during this period.
