D-Day Interdictor Strikes
Most of the Allied air power was directed to strikes against the European transport infrastructure in the days immediately after D-Day. Designed to prevent the movement of German troops and armour to the invasion areas the fighter bomber groups were given freedom to take out any transport targets that they came across. Prowling all over the French countryside these low level interdiction sorties caused havoc behind the front line battle area. Two Mustangs here complete the destruction of a rail/river bridge.
