Description
F86 – Sabre
The icon of the early jet age, the F86 saw operational service with the USAF from 1949 until 1956. Developed throughout the early 50’s in the heat of the Korean conflict the F86 proved to be slightly superior to the Mig-15, although there are many discussions still ongoing over the actual kill-rate achieved by the F86. Retired from front line USAF service by the early 60’s the F86 continued to give excellent service with a variety of air forces – the last active unit being the Bolivian air force in 1994.
Seen here in the livery of the USAF Fighter Weapons School at Nellis AFB the F86 is still a star at any modern airshow.
